Special Awards: NYLT

ASM Marguerite Giustina talked about special leadership training that the Boy Scouts has available that is separate from actual Boy Scout activities, called the National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) program, which some of the older boys participated in this past summer. It’s an intensive, immersive 1 week away camp where the boys are taught how to be great leaders; for Troop 12 Scouts, the cost of participating is covered by a grant from a former Troop 12 family.

The boys who completed the program this year were:

  • Michael D.
  • Jackson K.
  • GianLuca Roses
  •  Thomas D.
  • Charles M.

And that concluded the Troop 12 200th Court of Honor!

Adult Coverage for Camping This Weekend (9/29/2017 – 10/1/2017)

We will be sending out a regular Troop-wide email tonight for the upcoming camping trip, but I wanted to get a head count of how many parents will be up for the weekend.  If you plan to attend and stay-over either night, please email me back so we are sure to have enough food and can plan accordingly.

We will also hold our 200th Court of Honor on Sunday at the Camp Glen Gray Dining Hall at 10 am.  If your son participated in Keowa Summer Camp or advanced in rank, please attend to share in our recognition of his achievements.

Any questions about the upcoming trip, please send me an email after the regular Troop email is sent this evening.

POST HOLIDAY DONATIONS

While most people make donations to the Food Pantry during the holidays, Human Needs actually has high need for food year round, hunger doesn’t discriminate. So the Troop made a second donation post-Christmas:

A $50 gift coupon from Scoutmaster Carl to Stop N’ Shop, netted the following:

  • 8 boxes of pasta
  • 3 jars of peanut butter
  • 1 jar of jam
  • 1 packet of rice
  • 2 jars of pasta sauce
  • 10 cans of tuna
  • 5 cans of assorted beans
  • 2 boxes of cereal

Special thanks to my wife, Sophia Leong for making all those runs to the local supermarkets for getting all of the post-Christmas food donations, including the following additional items:

    • 2 cans of instant coffee
    • 3 jars of peanut butter
    • 1 bottle of cooking oil
    • 10 boxes of pasta

Thanks again to all of the families that helped out on this food drive, The Troop strives to help give back to the community we call “home” as much as we can.
