Solar Eclipse Patch
The August 21, 2017 Eclipse Boy Scout Patch
We have the first submission by a Scout for the Solar Eclipse Patch. We have 10 to award, so get your entries in by email to Mr. Joslyn by this weekend to get yours!
Astronomy Merit Badge
Any Scout who was on the Mystic Seaport Bus Trip and has their Astronomy workbooks should add the Eclipse to the relevant sections – there still is time to get this badge too!
Glen Gray Work Day
September 16th we will have a work day to split wood for Glen Gray and for the Troop 12 cabin as well as continue working on getting the cabin in shape. The grass and milkweed have been cut this past weekend, and the camp has installed a new cooktop in the kitchen so, with the great job we did on the floor this summer, we have real progress!
We need 2-3 parents and 2-3 Scouts for the wood splitting and Scouts splitting wood will get Service Hours. Patrol Leaders will reach out to their patrols in early September to get a head count for the first meeting September 15th.
We took a year off from the Popcorn Sale but we will be restarting this year. Along with our other fundraising events, the Popcorn Sale helps us cover our annual budget for the Scouting program. We will have more info on how to do this at the September 15th meeting, so get your buyer lists ready!
The August 3rd edition of the Montclair Times recognized our two latest Eagle Scouts, Peter Brown, and Jacob (Jake) Skorzewski:
The copy reads:
“Boy Scout Troop 12 announces new Eagle Scouts
Boy Scout Troop 12 of Montclair awarded the Eagle Rank to two Scouts at a Court of Honor held at St. James Church on June 9.
The new Eagle Scouts are Peter Brown and Jacob Skorzewski.
To earn the Eagle rank, a Scout must earn 21 merit badges, serve in various leadership positions and complete a community service leadership project.
For Peter’s Eagle leadership service project, he collected used eyeglasses which he donated to charity. He built a collection box which was later donated toSt. James Church and then organized the Scouts in a door-to-door collection.
He taught Scouts how to use a lensometer andmeasured the prescriptions of each pair of glasses before shipping them off to Children’s Eye Care Center NJ. The project was under the guidance of Anthony Caputo M.D. with 172 pairs of glasses collected. Peter is a rising senior at Monctclair Kimberly Academy.
