Updates from Scoutmaster Carl, 5/13/2016

Court of Honor is June 10th

Mark your Calendars! If you are going for a rank you need to get your Board of Reviews and Conferences done by May 22nd.

Merit Badges

The current merit badge cycle ends May 20th – please get your workbooks completed in time.  Any questions, please see your merit badge counsellor or Mrs. Brown.

Spring Camporee

Spring Camporee is coming up the 21st and 22nd. Patrols will be camping out – at next week’s meeting we will take final head count and review how prepared each patrol is.  If Patrols have not already done so, they need to send Scout their meal plans and head count by Tuesday afternoon and cc: Ben Benish.

Mt. Hebron Cemetery Memorial Day Flag Planting

Marcos Parada will be leading our participation in the Drew Schmetterling project to plant flags on veteran’s graves in Mt. Hebron cemetery. We will be doing this project just after the camping trip at 10AM on Sunday, May 22nd.  The more Scouts and adults we have help, the faster this project will go.  We have done this project for several years and it is important for the families of veterans as well as the community.

Edgemont Pond Memorial Day Celebration

Troop 12 will also be participating in the Memorial Day ceremony at Edgemont Pond, May 30th.  I would like to thank Ben Gudzy, Jackson Kim and Max Ferrante for volunteering to represent Troop 12 in the event.

2017 Scout Jamboree

If there is any interest in attending the 2017 Scout Jamboree in West Virginia next year, please email me. The District is sending a number of troops made up from interested Scouts but it will not be a Troop 12 event.

Summer Camp

Mr. Brandon has sent out emails about Keowa – please respond to him. We also need adult volunteers, please contact Mr. Brandon if you can attend for all or part of the week.

New Class ‘B’ T-Shirts!

We have run out of Class B’s!  Alex Parada and Max Ferrante have volunteered to help design the next generation of Class B’s.

Committee Meeting

Troop Committee meeting was this past Tuesday at 7:30PM at Troop Chair John Hartinger’s house. Watch out for emails and notices for the next meeting, all parents are encouraged to attend.
Yours in Scouting.

UPDATE!: 2 Community Service Opportunities this Weekend!

UPDATE! This page previously mentioned garden clean up at the Montclair Art Museum. Bur because of expected inclement weather, the  Montclair Art Museum has cancelled their garden clean up, so we will only be helping out Van Vleck House this weekend.

Boy Scout Volunteers Needed

We have a community service opportunity this weekend that Mr. and Mrs. Brown would like to bring to your attention.  Rank advancement requires community service hours for Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and Eagle and we have a great opportunity to obtain community service hours at the following event occurring in Montclair this weekend.  You could satisfy most if not all of your community service hours for rank advancement by helping at the Van Vleck  House  who has  asked for our help!

Event details

Saturday May 7th
Doors open 11 am
Sale ends at 4 pm
We’re looking for Scouts to be there at 10:30 am to help set up, and stay after closing to clean up. Scouts will mostly help take purchased plants to cars, anytime during the sale.
Ideally, we would like to have as much participation as is possible and we understand that this is Mother’s Day Weekend and that you just returned from Mystic.  If you are able to help, please let Mr. Brown know, or just show up! They are grateful for any help you can provide!  Mr. & Mrs. DeSmith will be there in the morning, and  Mr. Brown will help oversee the crew at the Van Vleck House on Saturday afternoon after about 1 pm.
