Updates from Scoutmaster Carl, 4/8/2016

New Website

We are continuing to transition the old SOAR website to the new ScoutBook site. You may continue to get email blasts from SOAR – please disregard them. We hope to be on the new site soon – Sean Leong has been leading this lengthy process and we all appreciate his efforts. Any Scouts that want to get extra experience in websites please contact Mr. Leong – help is always welcome!

Weekly Meeting

There is a meeting this Friday night, April 8th  at 7pm at St. James. We will continue merit badges and have the regular weekly activities.
There is no meeting April 15th – enjoy Spring Break and Emancipation Day!

Plant Sales

The Plant Sales continues and forms are not due until April 22nd!
Scouts – just based on last Sunday there are plenty of neighbors who have not planted yet and who would be very happy to buy your plants. Remember to buddy up, bring the presentation in a binder and have plenty of order forms – one order form per customer and with all orders summarized on the master order for to hand in. Every dollar you earn helps get us closer to our goals as a Troop!

Spring Bus Trip

If you have not responded, please contact Mr. Brown and tell him if you are – or if you are not – going. The bus is filling up fast, so get your response in now! In addition to camping, Scouts will get to test their harpoon-throwing skills, work on a real whaling ship and work towards their Astronomy merit badge. We may have a visit from Doc Leard!

Keowa

If you have not responded to Mr. Brandon, please tell him if you are going to Keowa in July. We will have to get our deposits in soon!

Recruiting

  • Thank you to the Scouts and Scouters who spent their evenings out in front of Renaissance, Mt. Hebron and Glenfield. We already had one prospective Scout attend our Friday meeting last week! If you know a prospect, please invite him!
  • Troop 12 will help with Pack 12’s annual food drive for Toni’s Kitchen on April 27th as part of our recruiting process. We will be helping with sorting and packing food, but we also will be providing food as part of their efforts. More information will follow – but we need to know who will volunteer for this event over the next week. Please see Mssrs. Joslyn, Hartinger or Brown for more information.

 St. James Ministry Service

A Color Guard from Troop 12 will be helping celebrate the New Ministry for St. James and the Reverend Melissa Hall this Saturday at 4PM. CJ Kaloudis, Jack Brandon, Sam Joslyn, Justin Leong and Jackson Kim, along with Troop Leadership, will attend.

Uniform Donations

We are still happy to accept uniform donations. See Mr. Joslyn if you have old uniforms (without badges) or other Scout wear to donate.

Monster Jam

The Monster Jam is still available at MetLife Stadium, April 23rd. See nnjbsa.org if interested.

Camporee

The 2016 Spring Camporee will be held the 21st and 22nd of May at Camp Glen Gray.
