The copy reads:

MONTCLAIR — Last month, Alex Hadley, Stephen Shaheen and Jake Thomas, members of Boy Scout Troop 12, were honored at an Eagle Court of Honor for achieving the Eagle Scout status, the Boy Scouts’ highest honor.

To earn the Eagle Award, a Scout must be active with a troop, earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, assume a position of leadership in a troop and complete a service project that benefits his community.

For his project Alex planted four trees at Edgemont Park, which he also raised the money to purchase. The trees were selected with the assistance of the town arborist to improve the topical beauty, provide habitats for local wildlife and stabilize the soil around the lake. Alex is a senior at Montclair High School.

Stephen cleared debris from the red trail at Mills Reservation. The trail was littered with fallen tree trunks and limbs and was overgrown with an invasive vine, making it nearly impassible. Stephen is a senior at Montclair High School.

Jake replaced soil and plantings in a section of Montclair’s historic Anderson Park, restoring the area to the original Olmsted design. Jake is a senior at the Forman School in Connecticut.

The new Eagle Scouts were honored at a Court of Honor held at St. James Episcopal Church.”
